The newspaper has been an essential part of the American society since as early as 1690 when its first publication occurred in Boston, Mass. It's title, "Publick Occurrences". This newspaper was published without authority was immediately suppressed and all copies were destroyed.
The first successful newspaper was called "The Boston News-Letter" which was published in 1704 by a man named John Campbell. And by the end of the Revolutionary War in 1783 there were forty-three newspapers in print.
The Bill of Rights in 1971 declared the freedom of press whilst granting the freedom to print without scrutiny which in return caused the publication of newspaper around America to expand very rapidly.
Newspapers go back a lot further than "The Hub of the Universe", newspapers have been dated back to Renaissance Europe. Where newsletters were published to inform merchants and other individuals about wars and economics.
